You may think that stocks are a complicated subject, but essentially a stock represents a chunk of a company. Owning a stock means that you own part of a company with a claim to it. However few the stocks are, it is an asset and can be cashed on.
To the untrained eye, the stock market may look like legalized gambling. If your stock appreciates, you win. If its value crashes, you lose. That is not exactly the case. Most new investors think that the stock market is a short term investment wagon which can either bring them big monetary gains or shattering losses. With this attitude, the stock market as a form of investment is just as reliable as a game of roulette.
Today's financial system is considerably more complicated than it was a few decades ago. The logic behind stock exchange is that companies require money for growth and expansion. A company does this by offering shares to the public on the stock market. Stock markets deal in selling and purchasing stock.
Basically, a person can make money on the stock market in two general ways:
1. Appreciation in share price
This occurs over a period of time, as it happens when the market values the increased profits resulting from expansion in the business or subsequent share repurchases. These make every share a representation of greater business ownership as a percentage of the total equity. For example, let's say a business sold each share in its initial public offering at $5 per share and experienced a growth rate of 20 percent for 10 years through share repurchases and expansion. The shares would be worth approximately $310 each as a result of these factors, assuming the same ratio of price to earnings is maintained.
2. Dividends
Owning shares traded in the stock exchange means that when the business realizes profits, you receive earnings depending on how many shares you own. These earnings can be used to purchase more shares or used for other things.
Prospecting traders can make money on the stock market through the following ways:
1. Scalper trading
In this type of trading, traders take advantage of minute market inconsistencies and quick changes in the market trends to make money. A scalper can only have a few seconds or a couple of minutes at most to make a high number of trades. A scalper tends to make quick numerous trades since their profit is usually small.
2. Intraday trading
Traders in this category may make money on a daily basis via the stocks. Their favorable trading positions never last longer than a day. Most intraday traders realize profits within a couple of hours. They trade as frequently as scalpers, but trade more often as compared to swing traders.
3. Swing trading
This involves a much longer period of time. Swing traders make money by putting fundamental and technical analysis into consideration. Their trades can last up to several days. Swing trading involves using swings in the stock market to make trades, rather than relying on movements. Advanced swing traders are normally referred to as position traders. These types of traders can hold favorable trades for up to several months.
All in all, making significant amounts of money utilizing stocks involves accurately gauging and predicting patterns in the value of stock.

Owning a small business is both exciting and hard work. If you have the privilege of working for yourself, you understand that both discipline and marketing skills are necessary in order to make a sizable profit. In today's tech world, online marketing is essential to getting yourself some publicity, but there are also good old fashioned marketing ideas that you can utilize locally.
Here are some creative marketing ideas to get you making money from home via your small business:
1. Get articles published in local magazines. Write a few high quality articles and see if you can get them published in your local magazine or trade magazine. This is very cost effective and can reach many readers.
2. Sponsor a sports team in your community. If you want to build brand or service awareness, sponsor a local sports team. Use your logo and name on the uniforms and send out a press release letting others know that you are a generous community member.
3. Teach classes and workshops. If you're an expert in your field, feel free to hold your own classes, workshops, and check into speaking at seminars. As you get out there in the communities, you'll connect with many people.
4. Create a blog and update it regularly. The purpose of a blog is to dazzle your readers with interesting and relevant content. If you're not a writer, you can hire a freelance writer for a very good price so that you'll always have fresh content. Doing so will get you a better search engine ranking so that more people will be able to find your website via search engines. More traffic equals more sales!
5. Host a free event. Do you have knowledge or a quality service to share? Go ahead and host a free event to get the media interested and get plenty of prospects for your product or service. Give away prizes and be sure to have an email sign-up sheet for a newsletter or other free giveaways.
6. Get your information online everywhere. In addition to your website and blog, get active with online marketing avenues like YouTube, iTunes for podcasts, Facebook pages, Twitter, and other popular social media sites. As you expand your sphere of influence, you're building credibility and attracting more traffic and possible sales.
7. Honor birthdays and holidays. Many business owners report that the fact that they send handwritten birthday and holiday cards to past clients has won them bonus points in a major way. Take the time to do this and you'll be more apt to see your past customers time and time again and get them talking about you to family and friends.
If you own a small business and want to make money from home, it is essential that you tap into online and traditional marketing techniques. Some of these ideas only take a little bit of time, so you have no excuse for slacking with your marketing strategy. If you don't have ample time to spend marketing, hire someone to do this for you, as the investment will be well worth the payoff.

Mastering algebra requires that the student be cognizant of the properties of exponents. Exponents occur repeatedly in algebra and indeed in all higher branches of mathematics. Here in this series of articles we discuss what an exponent is and how to handle and simplify expressions involving powers.
An exponent is the power of a number or expression. For example 3^4 (in which the "^caret symbol represents exponentiation, or the raising to a power), the number 3 serves as the base, and the 4 after that special caret symbol tells us how many times to use 3 as a factor when multiplying by itself. Thus 3^4 means 3x3x3x3 = 81. Thus the exponent serves as a convenient shorthand notation to indicate repeated multiplication using the same number as multiplicand.
It is very easy to simplify expressions involving exponents, whether these be purely numerical examples as in (3^4)(3^2), or algebraic examples such as( x^3)(x^4). When the base is the same and we are multiplying expressions involving exponents, we simply add the exponents and retain the base. Thus in (3^4)(3^2), we do 4+2 = 6 and thus this expression becomes 3^6. In ( x^3)(x^4) we have 3+4 = 7 and thus this expression becomes x^7. If it is not obvious why we would add exponents together in such expressions, just think of the exponent as signifying beads on a necklace. If you string together 3 beads and then 4 beads, as in the second expression above, you have 7 beads.
If you have an expression in which you raise an exponential expression to another power, you simply multiply the exponents of the expression. Thus in (x^4)^2, you multiply the 4 and 2 to get 8, and end up with x^8. To understand why this is so, you need to recall that the exponent 2 in this example applied to the x^4 expression, tells us to use that twice to multiply itself. Multiplying x^4 by itself gives us x^8, as now we can use the rule learned in the previous paragraph. If you break things down this way and understand not only how but why, you are then in a much better position to make serious progress in algebra.
Two other key properties of exponents that you need to know are the following: 1) When you raise anything to the first power you obtain the given quantity; thus 3^1 = 3 and x^1 = x. This 1-exponent is also an invisible demon in the sense that even though we do not generally write the "1-exponent" it is always there understood. This is important to understand in examples such as x(x^5), which is really (x^1)(x^5) and thus equals x^6;2) Any expression to the 0th power is equal to 1. Thus x^0 = 1, and 4^0 = 1.
In the next part of this article, we shall explore the distributive and division properties of exponents. Once you get all the properties down pat, you will never again be at a loss with exponents; and since you will invariably come across exponents in all aspects of mathematics, having a mastery of this aspect will insure your continued success in this discipline.

In Part I of this article, we discussed how to work with exponents, specifically how to simplify expressions which involved multiplying like bases, raising an exponent to another power, and the property of any expression to the 0th and the 1st powers. Here we examine the distributive and quotient properties of exponents.
When you have an expression that involves one or more variables and numbers, and each of these may itself have an exponent, and then we have this expression enclosed in parentheses and raised to a power, you must use the distributive property of exponents to simplify: thus (3x^2y^3)^3 would qualify as such an expression. To simplify this expression, we simply multiply the exponent of each term by the exponent outside parentheses. Recall that the number term has the invisible demon exponent 1, and this was covered in the previous article. Thus we obtain 3^3x^6y^9, and simplifying for the number term, 27x^6y^9. Observe that we are distributing the exponent 3 outside the parentheses to each of the exponents inside parentheses, thus the name distributive property. Looking at another example, take (2^2x^4y^6z^3)^4. Distributing the 4 over the inside exponent terms and multiplying we have 2^8x^16y^24z^12 and simplifying for the number term we have 256x^16y^24z^12.
The quotient property comes into play when we divide one expression containing like bases by another. For example, take the expression (x^6y^3)/(x^2y^2). To simplify this expression, we subtract the exponents of like bases: thus x^4y^1 or more simply x^4y is the resulting expression. Again to understand why this property works the way it does, let us return to the analogy of pearls on a string, which we employed in Part I of this article. If we write out (x^6y^3)/(x^2y^2) we have xxxxxxyyy/xxyy. Now using the cancellation property, we can strike 2 x-pearls and 2 y-pearls from the numerator to end up with our answer of 4 x-pearls and 1 y-pearl, namely x^4y.
That is all there really is to these two properties. To make anything more out of them would simply be complicating something unnecessarily. Remember: mathematics is hard in itself; yet there is a lot to this subject which is readily understandable, such as the properties outlined in these two articles. Learn these rules and become familiar with their uses, as then mastery to algebra will be right around the corner.

Of the two branches of calculus, integral and differential, the latter admits to procedure while the former admits to creativity. This notwithstanding, the realm of implicit differentiation provides substantial room for confusion, and this topic often hinders a student's progress in the calculus. Here we look at this procedure and clarify its most stubborn features.
Normally when differentiating, we are given a function defined explicitly in terms of x. Thus the functions y = 3x + 3 or y = 3x^2 + 4x + 4 are two in which the dependent variable is defined explicitly in terms of the independent variable x. To obtain the derivatives y', we would simply apply our standard rules of differentiation to obtain for the first function and 6x + 4 for the second.
Unfortunately, sometimes life is not that easy. Such is the case with functions. There are certain situations in which the function f(x) = y is not explicitly expressed in terms of the independent variable alone, but is rather expressed in terms of the dependent one as well. In some of these cases, the function can be solved so as to express solely in terms of x, but often times this is impossible. The latter might occur, for example, when the dependent variable is expressed in terms of powers such as 3y^5 + x^3 = 3y - 4. Here, try as you might, you will not be able to express the variable explicitly in terms of x.
Fortunately, we can still differentiate in such cases, although in order to do so, we need to admit the assumption that is a differentiable function of x. With this assumption in place, we go ahead and differentiate as normal, using the chain rule whenever we encounter a variable. That is to say, we differentiate any variable terms as though they were variables, applying the standard differentiating procedures, and then affix a y' to the derived expression. Let us make this procedure clear by applying it to the above example, that is 3y^5 + x^3 = 3y - 4.
Here we would get (15y^4)y' + 3x^2 = 3y'. Collecting terms involving y' to one side of the equation yields 3x^2 = 3y' - (15y^4)y'. Factoring out y' on the right hand side gives 3x^2 = y'(3 - 15y^4). Finally, dividing to solve for y', we have y' = (3x^2)/(3 - 15y^4).
The key to this procedure is to remember that every time we differentiate an expression involving y, we must affix y' to the result. Let us look at the hyperbola xy = 1. In this case, we can solve for explicitly to obtain y = 1/x. Differentiating this last expression using the quotient rule would yield y' = -1/(x^2). Let us do this example using implicit differentiation and show how we end up with the same result. Remember we must use the product rule to xy and do not forget to affix y', when differentiating the term. Thus we have (differentiating x first) y + xy' = 0. Solving for y', we have y' = -y/x. Recalling that y = 1/x and substituting, we obtain the same result as by explicit differentiation, namely that y' = -1/(x^2).
Implicit differentiation, therefore, need not be a bugbear in the calculus student's portfolio. Just remember to admit the assumption that y is a differentiable function of and begin to apply the normal procedures of differentiation to both the and terms. As you encounter a term, simply affix y'. Isolate terms involving y' and then solve. Voila, implicit differentiation.

In order to master mathematics, at least at the basic levels, you need to know the language. Without being able to recognize basic facts and concepts, you can never truly understand this subject. Armed with a solid knowledge of the building blocks such as numbers, variables, equations, and sets, the student has a good shot at doing well in this subject and moving progressively along the ranks.
Constants and Variables
Math hinges on numbers. A constant is a quantity that does not change. Thus any number such as 3, -10, or 1/2 are all constants. A variable, on the other hand, is an expression that can change, or vary. Variables are represented by letters such as x or y. Algebra is a branch of mathematics that uses variables and symbols to represent models that describe physical processes or other phenomena of the real world. For example, if a person makes $8 per hour and works 40 hours per week, the pay can be calculated by 40*8 = $320. If we wanted to calculate the pay for each of a group of employees who each make the same hourly wage, but whose hours varied, we would derive the expression 8h, where h represents the hours of each. Thus if Stan worked 30 hours, Stan's pay would be 30*8 or $240.
Variables serve different purposes. In the equation x + 9 = 10, x serves as a placeholder for the number 1 since 1 makes the equation true. In y = x + 3, y changes as x changes. Because y is determined from values of x, we call y the dependent variable and x the independent variable. If we choose x from the values 1, 3, and 5 and substitute them into the equation, we obtain for y, 4, 6, and 8, respectively. The set of values from which we choose x is called the domain, or replacement set; and the set of values obtained for y is called the range.
Equations and Inequations
An equation is a mathematical expression that two quantities or expressions have the same value. For example, 3 = 3 or 3x4 = 12, are basic examples of equations. In the expression, y = 2x, we are saying that y is always twice the value of x. That is, when we plug in values for x, we obtain the equivalent for y. An inequation is an expression that two quantities or expressions do not have the same value; an inequation is represented by the "=" sign symbol with a line through it (here we will represent this by "/=," which is the symbol used in some computer programming languages). For example, y /= x means that y and x represent different values; 3 /= 4 is obviously an inequation.
Equations are ubiquitous in mathematics, and range from the simplest linear equations to the most complex integral equations. Linear equations deal with lines, quadratic equations deal with parabolas, and polynomial equations deal with more complex shapes. In more advanced courses, students study transcendental equations, which involve such functions as the sine and cosine, and differential equations, which involve derivatives. Many problems require that solutions be found to various equations, or to determine whether there are no solutions.
Sets and Subsets
set is simply a group or collection of distinct objects. For example, the set A = {John, Sue, Steve} or B = {1, 3, 6}. The members that make up a set are called elements. The order in which the elements appear in a set does not matter and thus the sets {1, 3, 5} and {3, 1, 5} are the same. Subsets are sets that are portions of other sets. For example, the set {John, Sue} is a subset of A stated previously. The union of two sets is the combination of all the distinct elements in the two sets and is represented by the symbol "U." For example, let C = {4, 9, 10, 12, 20} and D = {1, 2, 4}. Then CUD is the set {1, 2, 4, 9, 10, 12, 20}. Notice that both sets contain the element 4, and therefore it was not repeated in the union. The intersection of two sets, represented by an inverted U (here we will use "/\") is the set containing the common elements of the sets in question. Thus C/\D is the set {4}.
With these basic math facts in hand, any student will be better prepared to tackle the rigors of mathematics. Once a solid foundation in the core concepts is laid, and the development of a robust vocabulary of the terms and definitions is obtained, any individual will stand better equipped to achieve success in the bugbear of all bugbear subjects---mathematics.

A gastroenterology clinic is helpful in diagnosing a variety of stomach and intestinal issues. They can treat minor problems such as constipation or diarrhea, and more serious conditions like ulcers, Chron's disease, or irritable bowel syndrome. The following are some of the most common gastrointestinal problems that may be helped by a team of professionals.
Reflux
If you have frequent heartburn, you may have a common condition called reflux. It is described as a burning sensation rising up from the center of your abdomen into the chest around the sternum. You may also have a sour taste in your mouth or salivate more frequently. Other symptoms may include trouble swallowing or a dry cough. It is usually treated with over-the-counter or prescription medications. A more serious form of this condition is called GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease. If left untreated, this disease can cause harm to your esophagus over time, and even cause cancer. In some cases, surgery may be needed to tighten the muscle between the stomach and esophagus so that acid cannot flow upward.
Peptic Ulcers
Persistent stomach pain could be a sign of a peptic ulcer. They can be caused by different factors such as bacteria, alcohol use, smoking, excessive use of NSAID medicines, and even stress. No matter the cause, an ulcer is a sore in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine. If they are not treated, ulcers may cause internal bleeding and sores, leading to infection. Scar tissue from the ulcer can also block the digestive tract. They are usually treated with antibiotics and reducing or eliminating the potential causes. Surgery may be recommended in severe cases.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Common symptoms include abdominal pain and diarrhea, but you may also experience anemia, rectal bleeding, and weight loss. There is no one test that can diagnose either condition, so patients usually have to go through a series of tests. Either form of IBD can result from immune system problems that prompt the body to attack the gastrointestinal system. A gastroenterology clinic team may suggest a combination of prescription medications for the inflammation such as steroids and an immunosuppressant.
Constipation
Constipation is a common problem. Americans spend hundreds of millions of dollars on laxatives every year. Overuse, however, can have the opposite effect. Your system can become dependent on the drugs. The frequency of bowel movements is different for everyone, so you shouldn't worry if you don't have one every day. Just know what is normal for you. Talk with your doctor about any changes, and especially if you have a lot of discomfort with no bowel movements for several days. Your doctor may suggest an over-the-counter remedy, or to increase your intake of foods that may help stimulate your system.
A gastroenterology clinic can be a valuable resource in diagnosing your chronic or ongoing intestinal problems. Whether you have mild issues that can be treated easily with medications, or a more serious problem requiring specialized treatment, a team of professionals specializing in this area can help manage your condition.

The end of life is one of those events that most people try to avoid for as long as possible. You will likely reach a time when either you or someone in your family is facing a terminal illness. When this happens, a hospice can assist you with many services to make the most of the remaining time. Learn how to assess various institutions and what questions to ask so you can choose the best one for your family's needs.
How Will the Patient Be Kept Comfortable?
A terminal illness often involves significant pain and discomfort. Find out what pain relieving options will be available for the patient. Ask about the logistics of administering these medications.
What Type of Support Is Available for the Family and Caregivers of the Patient?
Obviously, the patient will be the main person receiving care. However, family and caregivers have needs as well. Hospices can be an invaluable source of assistance for family members to help them navigate this difficult period. Ask about respite care for family members who may become exhausted with the situation.
Are After-Hours Services Available?
Illness typically knows no limitations, so needs and issues may arise at any hour of the day or night. Find out how the hospice assists families during after-hour periods and ask how to reach staff members when you need them.
What Will the Staff Members Do During Visits?
Find out the frequency and duration of the visits so you know what to expect. Ask about the precise services that will be performed at each visit. Will the staff member assist with bathing, feeding, and other personal care? Can family members leave while staff members are present?
What Is the Typical Enrollment Time After Making an Initial Request for Service?
Some institutions have longer wait periods than others. If you need immediate care, ensure that the institution you choose will accommodate your needs quickly.
How Are Physicians Integrated with Care?
Find out how a specific physician will work with the institution to provide care for the patient. Does the facility have a separate staff of physicians on call?
What Happens if a Patient Needs Inpatient Assistance?
Does the facility have beds for short-term admission? Does the facility work with specific hospitals or nursing homes when patients need advanced care?
What Other Professionals Work with the Hospice to Provide Services?
Many facilities also have counselors, clergy, and social workers on staff to assist with special needs.
How Long Has this Facility Been in Operation?
Ask for references to enable you to speak with other families who have used these services.
Many facilities will come to your home to speak with you about services. Hospice staffs are aware of the difficulty of these situations, and they have experience with families facing loss. Write down your questions before a meeting to ensure that you remember all the details. Jot down notes of the answers you receive to help you recall them. With a careful approach, you can hire the right supportive facility to assist you.

It all starts with a simple moment of forgetfulness on your loved one's part. "Where did I put my sunglasses?" They may ask you out loud as they prepare to head out the door for the day.
Seemingly innocent in nature, they simply brush off their lapse in memory and go about their day as normal. However, it does not stop there. The lapses in memory grow progressively worse over time. Misplacing objects and forgetting familiar phone numbers become a constant state of confusion. They don't just forget where they left their sunglasses anymore; they've forgotten who they are, and reminding them is now a reality, every day.
The signs above may lead to the diagnosis of Alzheimer's, a disease that interferes with a person's behavior, memory, and ability to think. There is no cure for Alzheimer's at this time, and patients, on average, will live about eight years after diagnosis, though that number can range from four to 20 years, depending on the patient's prior condition.
Some patients may lose the ability to complete everyday tasks independently, such as picking out clothes, getting dressed, or using the restroom. As a result, they may require 24/7 assistance from family members. It is at this point that you may want to start researching local nursing homes in your area in order to determine if they are a viable option for you and your loved one.
Nursing homes, unlike other senior housing programs, are designed to provide the patient with 24/7 care provided by registered nurses (RN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN). In addition, most nursing homes provide patients with both skilled and custodial care. In other words, nursing homes have the ability to properly handle most extensive wounds, IV therapy, and standard custodial care in the form of assisting patients with eating and bathing. A large number of patients with Alzheimer's will require custodial care on a regular basis for a long period of time, which most senior housing programs will provide.
However, patients with Alzheimer's may injure themselves in moments where they briefly lose clarity. Therefore, it is best to place them in a nursing home that is equipped to handle medical emergencies. When deciding on a nursing home, the first thing you should focus on is whether or not a facility is clean upon visiting. Also pay close attention to the residents in order to determine if they look well-nourished and groomed.
The best way to get to know a facility, not only judging it from an aesthetic point of view, is to arrange a phone call with the coordinator of the facility. Ask them if they have any activities specifically tailored to assist Alzheimer's patients with memory loss. The key to finding a suitable home for your loved one is to be informed. The more you know about a facility increases the likelihood that your loved one will be treated well and content with their new home.

Some patients with an illness or injury do not wish to receive assistance from caregivers in a professional setting. In contrast, these people wish to have practitioners visit them at their residences instead. Explore some of the benefits of home health care to determine whether this service fits your needs and budget.
Personalized Service
When caregivers come to a patient in the home, this assistance is typically more personalized and specialized to meet the unique needs of the patient. People usually receive a higher quality of service delivered in a more compassionate manner. It's common for relationships to develop between the patient and the staff members who visit regularly.
Convenience
Receiving visits from staff members in a residence is usually more convenient for both patients and families. Leaving the home to visit a facility will no longer be necessary because practitioners will come to the residence at times that fit the individual's schedule. This convenience can be particularly helpful during times of inclement weather when a patient should not venture outdoors due to cold, heat, or storms.
Help for Family Members
Family members caring for a sick or injured loved one usually experience significant time constraints because of this work. Hiring a company for home health care can reduce this burden for family members. The assistance provided can give family members more freedom to manage their own personal duties. With the reduced responsibility, families often begin to have more quality time with the person because they no longer become stressed over care duties. Family members often appreciate knowing that their loved one is receiving high-quality and professional care, which can lessen personal anxiety.
Promotes Healing
When people receive home health care, they may recover more quickly. In addition, people may receive dangerous exposure to germs and infections when visiting clinics and hospitals. The ability to have assistance at home can eliminate this exposure and promote faster healing. Many people even experience a reduced number of re-hospitalizations under this type of regimen.
Affordability
Inpatient care can be expensive for a family. The cost of leaving the home for ongoing outpatient appointments can also be expensive. In contrast, having a professional come to a residence is often more affordable.
Other Services
Shopping, running errands, and meal preparation are typical types of assistance that you might add to a package. Some assistants will also perform laundry and light cleaning work around the house. Inquire about personal care such as bathing, hair washing, and dressing.
Before making a final decision about home health care, perform a complete background inquiry for a company. After researching a company thoroughly, you should be ready to move forward with a contract.
